First Flight Sun-Air FDH-HAM 14.01.2019

On January 14th 2019 Sun Air of Scandinavia A/S launched their second route from Friedrichshafen to Hamburg. I was again invited by the airport to take pictures of the ceremony on the apron. Also Sun Air invited me to fly with them on the first rotation of their new route.

With about 200km/h headwind we started our jurney towards Hamburg in the 32 seat Dornier 328-300Jet towards Hamburg. Departing FDH on Rwy 24 we soon made a right turn towards Hamburg. Due tue the really strong headwind the ground speed was rather low with about 300kts. But all in all it was a very smooth flight and the service was as known with Sun Air excellent.

When we arrived at Hamburg the media and airport representatives were already waiting for us. After a short first flight ceremony with ribbon cutting and a fantastic cake, we already boarded the return flight to FDH.

On the return flight the wind therefor was with us. with about 450kts we made the flight back way faster.

After deboarding the aircraft the ceremony began. We were welcomed by several media and a local seaman chrorus. Next all went indoors because it was quite cold outside and the cakes were cut.

SunAir will from now on operate FDH-HAM on 6 days a week, monday to friday with a turnaround in the morning and evening per day and once on sunday. The flights are operated in a franchise agreement with British Airways and operated by Sun Air with their Dornier Do328Jet aircraft additionaly to their service between FDH and DUS started in June 2018. From now on the have two of their aircraft permanently based at FDH and hired local crews.
